Real Madrid scored the decisive goal against Valencia FC in the last second. But strangely enough, the hit wasn’t counted – which is why one player in particular went wild.
The game between FC Valencia and Real Madrid will be remembered for a long time. After the final whistle, the Royals couldn’t believe what had just happened. In the end they were left with just one point and had also lost their best player – possibly for some time.
What happened? FC Valencia initially led 2-0 against the league leaders. Hugo Dora (27th minute) and Roman Yaremchuk (30th) made the outsider dream of a win against Real with a double strike. However, the guests hit back through Vinícius Júnior, who shortened the score shortly before the break (45th+5) and equalized the score in the second half (76th).
Bellingham freaks out after goal: “What the hell is that?”
In the last second of the eight-minute injury time there was a scandal. A cross sailed into the home team’s penalty area and former BVB star Jude Bellingham headed in to give Real the win. The problem: Referee Jesús Gil Manzanoe had already blown the whistle. He ended the game right in the middle of the cross ball.
The Real Madrid players then stormed towards Manzanoe, gesticulating wildly, not wanting to believe what had just happened. A crowd of actors formed around the referee. Valencia professionals, staff and officials were also there.
Suddenly Manzanoe pulled out a red card in the hustle and bustle – and it was aimed at the goalscorer. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Englishman is said to have told the referee: “It’s a damn goal, the ball is in the air. What the hell is that?” Bellingham is now facing a longer ban.
Ancelotti on Bellingham: “No insult”
Real coach Carlo Ancelotti defended the offender after the game: “It’s true that he spoke energetically after the goal, and that’s normal,” said the 64-year-old, but added: “It wasn’t an insult at all .”
Regarding the entire situation surrounding the referee’s decision, Ancelotti said: “There’s not much to say. Something unusual happened today that I had never experienced before.” He thinks Manzanoe made a mistake with the early final whistle. “We are totally angry,” said Ancelotti. But: “We have to return to normality because we have an important game on Wednesday.”
Real will play the second leg of the Champions League next week. Then it’s against RB Leipzig. The Spaniards won the first leg 1-0.
