Noordenveld puts the first hydrogen-powered garbage truck into use

The municipality of Noordenveld will put a new hydrogen-powered garbage truck into use next week. Noordenveld currently has three diesel-powered garbage trucks. The hydrogen truck will soon say goodbye to the oldest garbage truck.

Noordenveld participates in a European project in the field of garbage trucks, Refuse Vehicle Innovation and Validation in Europe (REVIVE). The aim is to accelerate innovation in the field of hydrogen waste collection. In addition to Noordenveld, seven other European municipalities are participating in the project, including Groningen, Amsterdam and Antwerp.

“This new garbage truck not only looks clean, but is also really clean,” says councilor Alex Wekema. “It emits no CO2 and also runs almost silently through the streets. The green color of the container ensures that the car really stands out and fits in nicely with the green character of the car.”

Test rounds are first made with the new car. According to the municipality, this way the drivers can get used to driving and emptying containers with the new vehicle. The vehicle is then used on the regular waste routes.
