The characteristic building De Burcht on Tynaarlosestraat in Vries may be given a care function by the municipality of Tynaarlo. In addition, there will probably be eighteen apartments at the rear of the building, intended for seniors.
The Tynaarlo municipal council is sympathetic to the plans, despite objections from the area. They fear traffic nuisance and car headlights shining in. These concerns were expressed tonight by Mr Timmer, who spoke on behalf of his mother-in-law. “If the municipality does agree to this plan, we would like to see traffic calming measures.”
The full council (21 councilors were present tonight) agreed with the plans, but instructed the council to take the concerns of local residents to heart. “This plan meets the needs in Vries,” said Roelof Rutgers (Liveable Tynaarlo). “The demand for housing for seniors is only increasing. This allows us to let seniors live in their own village for as long as possible.”
Rutgers is referring to the eighteen apartments that are to be built at the rear of De Burcht. De Burcht itself will have a care function with ‘care studios’ in a newly built barn. Assisted living and daytime activities should be possible there.
Anneke Lubbers (PvdA) expressed relief with the plans and the positive attitude of the municipal council. “The iconic building and its name will be retained.”
D66 councilor Herman van Os still wanted a commitment from the municipal executive that the monumental trees at De Burcht will be preserved. “I read in the proposal that the council aims to preserve the trees,” he said. “I aspire to become Prime Minister myself, but I don’t think that chance is very good. How do we ensure the preservation of these trees?”
Councilor Jurryt Vellinga (Liveable Tynaarlo) indicated that as far as he is concerned, the preservation of the trees is part of the plan. “These are part of the appearance of De Burcht,” he says.
Vellinga could not dispel concerns about traffic congestion. “There will be more traffic, so it will be busier,” he noted. “But traffic experts have looked at the road and think it is possible there.”
The homes behind De Burcht will be built in three buildings of six apartments. Seniors who move in here do not have to be in need of care immediately, but over time they can receive care through, for example, the adjacent Kornoeljehof care home. All apartments are owner-occupied homes.
It is not yet clear when the plans will be implemented. The initiators can now apply for an environmental permit for the construction plans.
