A strengthened Jong AZ did not manage to beat NAC Breda. The youngsters lost 3-2 to the Brabanders in Wijdewormer. Denso Kasius and Ernest Poku scored the home team’s goals.
It took a while before the game in Wijdewormer got going. Ernest Poku, who came on as a substitute yesterday, came through dangerously and fell into the penalty area. The referee did not see a penalty and that resulted in Poku being shown a yellow card. Patriot Sejdiu forced goalkeeper Virgil Deen to make a save at the other end. Jong AZ saw this effort as a warning shot and took over the initiative from the Brabanders via Goncalo Esteves.
The Portuguese forced goalie Roy Kortsmit to make two saves and Denso Kasius shot wide. However, it was NAC that opened the score in injury time of the first half. Loek Postma knocked Fredrik Oldrup Jensen into the penalty area, after which Dominik Janosek converted the penalty: 0-1. It caused a sour feeling among the youngsters from AZ.
Jong AZ quickly received pay for their work in the second half. Kasius curled a free kick into the short corner behind Kortsmit for the equalizer. Finn Stam forced the goalkeeper into a save a few minutes later. The home team could not enjoy the tie for a long time, because the visitors took the lead again through Aimé Omgba: 1-2.
It became even more painful for Jong AZ. Jan van den Bergh worked a free kick from Janosek behind Deen and seemed to decide the game (1-3). Seemed like, because Poku brought the tension back by scoring just before the end (2-3). The score really did not change anymore, which meant that Jong AZ collapsed against the team from Breda.
