Jyväskylä’s JYP forward Braden Christoffer has received a five-match suspension from the SM league’s disciplinary delegation.
Christoffer hit Niclas Lundgren on the ankle in the Jukurit match on Saturday. The Jukurit defender was a player without the puck in the situation, because the puck had already gone somewhere else.
According to the disciplinary delegation, Christoffer caused a risk of injury.
– The delegation considers that, taking into account the force of the blow and the method of execution, the opponent was recklessly endangered by the fouling performed by Christoffer, so a ban should be imposed for the situation.
Initially, the disciplinary delegation gave Christoffer a three-match suspension, but the forward has a significant disciplinary history from the previous season, which is why the suspension is increased by two matches.
JYP’s head coach Mikko Heiskanen said at the press conference after the Jukurit match that “I hope the discipline is awake” when he assessed his protégé’s performance. Jukurit won the match between the teams 6–3.
JYP has only six matches left in the regular season. Christoffer is fit to play in the last game of the regular season.
