A fire broke out in an apartment complex on Bezettingslaan in Meppel this evening. The surrounding homes were therefore evacuated by the fire brigade as a precaution.
According to a fire brigade spokesperson, the fire started in a meter cupboard around 7.40 pm. This led to smoke development in the adjacent homes, which also had to be evacuated.
According to the spokesperson, the fire started in the meter cupboard, which was completely burned out. The fire has now been extinguished, but people are still being investigated because they may have inhaled smoke.
