Green for fun! On this day you can score free trees and shrubs in Zoetermeer

Do you have a (facade) garden, roof terrace or balcony where you could use some greenery? Then pay attention. You can soon score free trees in Zoetermeer. Whether you are a born gardener or regularly kill plants, this is the place to be for greenery at no cost.

Because there are ‘left over’ trees in Zoetermeer parks, you can collect them for free on Sunday, March 3. You can also help harvest in the Inner Park.

Seedlings to give away

Trees that are left? Yes, you read that right. It goes like this: every tree or shrub in the Indoor Park, for example, produces hundreds of babies every year: the so-called seedlings. Many of them grow in places where they cannot grow large. Like too close to a path or to each other. Or there are trees in places where new construction is planned, such as on Edisonstraat. To keep nature reserves healthy or to make room, site managers remove the seedlings.

New chance

But… there is nothing wrong with all those baby trees pulled from the ground! That is why Zoetermeer residents can have the seedlings – including maples, red dogwood, hazel, currant, laurel, bird cherry and more – for free. This gives them a new chance to grow into an adult tree or shrub.

Such a green rascal in your garden contributes to the goal of the municipality of Zoetermeer to turn our city into one large park. Because by greening the city, rainwater can drain away more easily, it becomes less hot in the summer and we increase biodiversity.

Collect free trees and shrubs in Zoetermeer

Would you like to collect trees or shrubs for free? Then you have to be at Edisonstraat (opposite house number 200) on Sunday March 3 between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Good to know: you must register in advance. That’s possible here. You will then receive a QR code with which you can collect your baby tree or shrub. Tip: take a tarp or bag with you to keep your car clean.

Help create

On Wednesday, February 21, Zoetermeer residents will roll up their sleeves to dig up trees in the Inner Park. These plants also deserve a new place in Zoetermeer’s nature. In addition to shoveling, you can also help bundle them. The trees will then go to Edisonstraat so that they can be picked up by a new owner on Sunday, March 3. Will you come and help one morning? Then give yourself here on.

We found out much more for you…
