The seven-time international striker Lukas Nmecha is about to make a comeback at VfL Wolfsburg after a long knee injury. Coach Niko Kovac at least promised that before the home game against Borussia Dortmund (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.).
“You can see that he hasn’t been there for nine months. “He’s really keen on football, you can see that in every single action in training,” said Kovac on Thursday. “We also know that he is not a player who can start right now. But he gives us an option that he might be able to play for ten minutes or 15 minutes. We are very positive about it.”
These brothers have played for the same Bundesliga club since 2000
19: Damir (5) & Mario Vrancic (1) – 6 appearances for Mainz 05
The 25-year-old Nmecha suffered a knee injury during the home game against BVB last season in November 2022, which also cost him his participation in the World Cup in Qatar. He suffered a setback in March and August 2023, so that he had to undergo an operation after his appearance in the DFB Cup against TuS Makkabi Berlin (6-0), in which he scored one goal.
There will be no duel with his younger brother Felix Nmecha (23) on Saturday. The midfielder, who moved from Wolfsburg to Dortmund for around 30 million euros before this season, is currently missing due to a hip injury.
