Werder Bremen: Stark is out injured – Ducksch is self-critical

Defense concerns are increasing

Werder Bremen will have to do without defender Niklas Stark for the time being and thus accept another loss in defense. The central defender is out due to hip problems and will therefore complete an individual training program. “We assume that he will not be available to us for a few weeks,” professional football director Clemens Fritz was quoted as saying on Tuesday.

In addition to the 28-year-old, his position colleagues Milos Veljkovic (28) and Amos Pieper (26), who are in the rehab phase, are still missing. Mitchell Weiser (29) is back on the pitch at the start of the training week after adductor problems.

Ducksch wants to stop negative body language towards Werder colleagues

On Tuesday, Werder’s European Championship candidate Marvin Ducksch praised improvements in the way he deals with teammates on the pitch. “Especially at the weekend, the body language wasn’t good from me,” he said at a media round. The 29-year-old complained several times about the decisions of his teammates during the 2-1 defeat against Heidenheim. “That’s simply not meant in a bad way,” said Ducksch. “I just have to get out of the habit of approaching it with such negative body language.”

Bremen’s currently top scorer with nine goals still believes in his chance of playing for the German national team at the European Championships in his own country this summer. During the DFB tests against Turkey and in Austria, he was given short assignments by coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Ducksch currently has strong competitors in Deniz Undav (27) from VfB Stuttgart and ex-colleague and BVB attacker Niclas Füllkrug (31). He said: “I still have a bit of time until the summer, now there’s another international break in March. Maybe the national coach will try something again.”
