His time as managing director at Hertha BSC ended ingloriously just over a year ago. Now Fredi Bobic will take on a job as an expert.
Fredi Bobic becomes an expert at the streaming service DAZN. As t-online learned, the 52-year-old will make his debut on Sunday in the game between VfB Stuttgart and Mainz 05.
Together with presenter Lena Cassel and commentator Jan Platte, the former Hertha managing director will accompany the game between the Champions League aspirants from Swabia and Mainz, who are in danger of relegation. Bobic will then make another appearance at BVB’s home game against Eintracht Frankfurt on March 17th.
Bobic already has experience on TV. He worked as an expert for the broadcaster MagentaTV at both the 2021 European Championships and the 2022 World Cup.
Cup winner with Frankfurt 2018
The former German international striker was the managing director of Berlin’s Hertha until just over a year ago, but was relieved of his duties there on January 28, 2023.
Bobic is currently in a legal dispute with his former club about whether his termination was legal. Due to an incident with an RBB journalist, whom the manager is said to have threatened with violence after a defeat against Union, Hertha changed the ordinary dismissal to one without notice.
Before his time in Berlin, Bobic worked, among other things, as sports director at VfB Stuttgart and as sports director at Eintracht Frankfurt. During his tenure at Eintracht, he won the DFB Cup against FC Bayern Munich in 2018. He also reached the final with the Swabians in 2013, but his team also lost 2-3 against FC Bayern.
As a player, Bobic played for VfB Stuttgart, Borussia Dortmund and Hertha BSC, among others. From 1994 to 2004 he also wore the jersey of the German national team and became European champion in England in 1996. In the same year he also became the top scorer in the Bundesliga with 17 goals.
The 37-time international finally ended his active career in the summer of 2007 after he had been under contract for eight games (two goals) with the Croatian first division club HNK Rijeka.
