Bayern may have bought the 3-1 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach at a high price: a Munich regular has to go.
That would be a blow for FC Bayern: The German record champions are worried about a top performer ahead of the Bundesliga top game against Bayer Leverkusen next weekend – defender Alphonso Davies is questionable.
“Phonzie has twisted his knee and needs to be examined now,” said Tuchel after Saturday’s 3-1 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach, in which the Canadian had to be substituted injured after 85 minutes. Raphaël Guerreiro came into play for him and represented the 23-year-old for the final minutes of the game.
Tuchel said he would have “no words” if Davies was injured. The left-back, who was recently criticized, was just on the way back to better form, showed an appealing performance against the “Foals” for stretches of the game, and also flashed his feared speed several times.
The Munich team has hope that Joshua Kimmich and Dayot Upamecano will return. Central defender Upamecano was out against Gladbach with a torn thigh muscle, midfielder Kimmich with a shoulder injury. Tuchel hopes that the two can be there against Leverkusen next Saturday. “We will definitely try that with Upa and Josh,” said the Bayern coach. “That will be decided in the middle of the week.”
Bayern are also still missing the long-term injured Serge Gnabry (hamstring injury in the left adductor area), Bouna Sarr (torn cruciate ligament) and Daniel Peretz (injury to the medial ligament in the right knee). Minjae Kim is out of the Asian Cup due to his participation with South Korea.
