Low fee in the millions

FSV Mainz 05 has strengthened itself on the winter transfer market. As the “Zerofives” confirmed, midfielder Nadiem Amiri (27) is coming from Bayer Leverkusen and is signing a contract until 2026. According to “Kicker” and “Bild”, the Bundesliga leaders will receive a million euro transfer fee. According to reports, attacker Jessic Ngankam (23) from Eintracht Frankfurt will soon follow to Mainz. While Amiri has been tied down, Ngankam is expected to support the Bundesliga second-to-last team on loan until the end of the season. However, implementation is still a long time coming.
“We were looking for a creative, fast midfielder who could help our offense immediately – and found a very good solution in Nadiem Amiri. With his experience from over 250 games in the Bundesliga, the Champions League, the Europa League and with the German national team, Nadiem will immensely strengthen our team in the fight to stay in the league. He convinced us that he wanted to and would tackle the relegation battle straight away. As a native of Rhineland-Palatinate, it is also a small homecoming for Nadiem,” said Mainz sports director Christian Heidel.
Amiri explained: “I have known the Mainz 05 club for a very long time and am convinced that the current position in the table does not reflect the quality of this team at all. I had good conversations with those responsible at Mainz 05 right from the start, I feel their trust and I have a huge desire to step on the gas together with the 05ers and have a successful season. I’m really looking forward to the 05 fans, to my first home game on Saturday and I hope that I can help start my time here in Mainz with a home win.”
Sancho, Boey & Co.: New additions to the Bundesliga clubs in winter 2024
Amiri’s contract in Leverkusen was only valid until the end of the season, and there were already numerous rumors about a farewell last summer. A change did not materialize and instead the five-time DFB player sat mostly on the bench at Bayer. There are only 146 minutes spread over nine appearances this season. Amiri moved from TSG Hoffenheim to Leverkusen in 2019 for a fee of 9 million euros, where he has played 146 games to date and contributed twelve goals and 20 assists. In the meantime, he played on loan for Genoa CFC in the second half of the 2021/22 season, but the negotiated purchase obligation did not apply due to the Italians’ relegation.
