The British record temperature for January was broken in the Scottish village of Kinlochewe, in the north-west Highlands, on Sunday. The mercury reached 19.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the Met Office reported. This clarifies that these are still provisional figures. The previous record was 18.3 degrees. This was achieved in 2003 in the Scottish villages of Inchmarlo and Aboyne, and in 1958 and 1971 in Aber, Wales.
