Three-time title winners Nigeria and Angola are the first quarter-finalists at the 34th AfricaCup.
In the top duel of the round of the best 16 teams at the AfricaCup the Nigerians sat down in Abidjan against the five-time African champions Cameroon 2-0 (1-0). Former Leipzig Bundesliga professional Ademola Lookman (36th minute), currently under contract with Bergamo, took the lead after a pass from Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. In stoppage time (90+1), Lookman made everything clear with his second goal. The Cameroonian defense team didn’t cut a good figure for both goals.
In the quarterfinals next Friday (02/02/2024) the “Super Eagles” to do with Angola. The “Black Antilopes” defeated Namibia, coached by former HSV professional Collin Benjamin, 3-0 (2-0) in Bouake in an eventful game.
Two expulsions
Gelson Dala (38th, 42nd) and Mabululu (66th) scored the goals. The game ended with ten players on each side after the Angolan goalkeeper Neblu (17th/red) and the Namibian central defender Lubeni Haukongo (40th/yellow-red) were sent off.
