Prime Minister Mark Rutte expresses support for Ukrainian resistance in video message: ‘We are family in Europe’

Prime Minister Mark Rutte has put a video message for the Ukrainian population online. He says he admires the Ukrainians in it, and promises to continue to provide support in the form of weapons, medicines and food in the fight against Russian troops. “We are family in Europe.”

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky had asked Rutte to record the video, the prime minister said. “I promise you, your determination will be our determination. For this cruel attack cannot and will not succeed.” Rutte further refers to the sanctions that have been imposed against Russian persons and companies after the attack on Ukraine.

“Free countries are united in their condemnation of the attack. United in their support for the Ukrainian people. And united in their response,” said Rutte. He closes the film with the Ukrainian battle cry with which Zelensky often closes his own speeches: “Slava Ukraini!”, or ‘Glory to Ukraine’.
