The Jussi candidates speak.
The domestic film industry’s Jussi nominees were published yesterday. One of the most prestigious categories is the main part of the year. The gala has abandoned the gender division, meaning that only three actors are nominated.
They got the nomination Alma Pöysti from the movie Four small adults, Leena Uotila From grandma and Jussi Vatanen From dead leaves.
The fact that Pöysti did not receive a nomination from Kollei lehti has aroused surprise. The performance of the role in Dead leaves has caused a huge sensation in the world, and Alma Pöysti was even nominated for a Golden Globe for it.

So is the Jussi gala a tougher level than the Golden Globe?

This year there are only three candidates per category, with the exception of the public vote.

Even last year, there were four candidates in the categories. According to Liukkonen, the reason for this is that in 2022 more domestic films premiered than last year. This, in turn, was due to the corona pandemic, which postponed the release of several films.
The Jussi candidates are selected annually by an expert jury consisting of professionals, together with the Board of Filmiaura. Choices are made both by voting and by discussion. The winners are chosen by the membership of Filmiaura ry by closed ticket voting and the public by online voting.
The Jussi gala will take place on March 22, 2024.
