Gladbach fans will soon have to adjust, as goalkeeping coach Fabian Otte is leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach at the end of the season and will take up his position with the USA national team full-time.
The club and association announced this on Thursday. Otte has been available to head coach Gregg Berhalter’s staff for international matches since September.
“This is a great opportunity for him,” said Borussia’s sports director Roland Virkus in a statement. Otte “informed the club early on about his plans” and therefore they have “been in the process of arranging his successor for some time.”
The USA will host the Copa America next summer. It is the most important tournament for Berhalter’s team before the World Cup two years later, which the USA will host together with Mexico and Canada.
