After months of tug-of-war, VfB Stuttgart will now finally be able to look forward to receiving millions in donations from investor Porsche.
As the “kicker” reported in its Thursday edition, citing its own information, the executive committee of the German Football League (DFL) gave the green light for the deal on Tuesday. However, an official report on this is still pending.
Porsche’s entry into VfB Stuttgart was controversial because the car manufacturer belongs to the VW Group, which is not only involved with VfL Wolfsburg, but also with FC Bayern and FC Ingolstadt through its subsidiary Audi. This hurdle has now apparently been removed by the DFL presidium.
However, the “kicker” writes about controversial discussions within the committee, which includes, among others, BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke and CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen from FC Bayern.
Porsche is also said not to be particularly pleased that VfB Stuttgart took so long to clarify the matter. Nevertheless, the entry is now finally taking place.
VfB Stuttgart received more than 40 million euros
In this context, VfB Stuttgart can look forward to donations totaling 41.5 million euros, divided into two tranches. The club had already announced in June that only formalities remained to be clarified.
However, the Swabians are not planning a major attack on the transfer market with the fresh money. Instead, the Porsche millions should flow primarily into the club’s infrastructure. The after-effects of the Corona crisis should also be further reduced.
“We cannot and will not throw this money on the transfer market and buy players for 20 million,” VfB CEO Alexander Wehrle made it clear last summer.
In terms of sport, things are going surprisingly well at VfB Stuttgart at the moment. After 18 match days in the Bundesliga, coach Sebastian Hoeneß’s team is in third place in the table.
