Mexican football legend Chicharito is back in his homeland. 14 years after leaving for Europe, where he played for five different clubs in England, Spain and Germany, and four years in the North American MLS, the 35-year-old striker signed with youth club Deportivo Guadalajara.
The club did not publish the exact length of the contract, but wrote in the club announcement that Chicharito was returning “for the Clausura” – i.e. the Liga MX season in the first half of the year. It is not known whether a further agreement will apply afterwards.
Chicharito, the Mexican national team’s record scorer with 52 goals in 109 games, played in Europe for Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, West Ham United and Sevilla FC. In January 2020 he moved to the Los Angeles Galaxy, where his contract expired at the end of the year.
