In the tournament held in Melbourne, number 2 seed Alcaraz and number 6 seed Zverev in men’s singles faced each other in the quarter-finals.
Defeating Alcaraz, who has two grand slam championships in his career, 3-1 with sets of 6-1, 6-3, 6-7 and 6-4, Zverev reached the semi-finals for the second time in the tournament after 2020.
Zverev was matched with the No. 3 seed Russian Daniil Medvedev, the finalist of 2021 and 2022.
While the two rackets have met 18 times before, Medvedev left the court with the victory in 11 of them. Zverev and Medvedev will compete in a grand slam tournament for the first time.
