Tears of happiness and relief at the finish of the Dakar Rally: ‘The toughest ever’

Eight Brabant teams reached the finish of the Dakar Rally on Friday afternoon. This year our fellow provinces were not on the podium. Defending champion Janus van Kasteren was deeply disappointed after his fourth place in the trucks. The other Brabanders mainly showed tears of happiness and relief. Martijn van de Broek had a very difficult final test in his buggy and was afraid of dropping out. Anja van Loon made history as she became the first female Dutch truck driver to finish the Dakar Rally. The people of Brabant agreed on one thing: this was the toughest edition ever.
