Tallon Greekpoor from Nieuw-Vennep has secured a place in the third round of the Australian Open. The 28th-seeded Dutchman was too strong for the Frenchman Arthur Fils in four sets: 3-6, 6-1, 7-5, and 6-4.
Greekpoor gave up a break lead in the fourth set, but posted another break at 4-4, with a love game. He served out the match convincingly and finished it after 2 hours and 19 minutes with his first match point. Fils concluded the game with a return that went far out.
Only Dutchman
Greekpoor is the only Dutchman still active in the singles of the Australian Open. The 27-year-old Greek track may face the Dane Holger Rune in the third round, who will face Arthur Cazaux from France in the second round. He can then qualify for the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time. Last year, Greek Spoor also reached the last 32 in Melbourne and then Stefanos Tsitsipas was too strong.
