Jérôme Boateng stayed fit at FC Bayern in the last few months, but didn’t get a contract there. Now the clubless 2014 world champion may have found a new employer.
As Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio reports on his own portal, Boateng could move to Serie A bottom team US Salernitana.
Accordingly, Thursday should be a “decisive day” in terms of personnel. There is growing hope at Salernitana that the deal with the now 35-year-old will go through.
It is said that managing director Walter Sabatini absolutely wants to provide coach Filippo Inzaghi with an experienced defensive force. This should be Boateng. The report does not provide further details, for example about the possible contract term.
Boateng moved on to Olympique Lyon in 2021 after his contract with FC Bayern ended. But his involvement there ended last summer. Since then he has been looking for a club.
At FC Bayern, Boateng was even allowed to train with the professional team at times and impressed with his strong fitness values. Ultimately, however, there was no commitment.
FC Bayern sees “overall situation” with Jérôme Boateng
Not only sporting reasons played a role in the German record champions’ decision, but also the “surroundings” of the criminal trial against the former national player, as CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen confirmed on “Bild-TV” in October.
The “overall situation” at Boateng was analyzed, “which is not just sporty, unfortunately,” explained coach Thomas Tuchel.
Nevertheless, Boateng was able to continue to stay fit with FC Bayern’s second team.
In the meantime there was also a meeting with representatives of 1. FC Heidenheim. However, there was no change. Afterwards, there were also disagreements between Heidenheim’s coach Frank Schmidt and Boateng’s agent Tolga Dirican. Essentially, it was about the question of whether the newcomer had turned down the professional or vice versa.
