With videoEgypt and Nigeria have not started the African Cup in Ivory Coast too convincingly. The two countries are among the top favorites for the final victory, but started the tournament with a draw against much lower ranked countries.
Nigeria drew 1-1 against Equatorial Guinea. Iván Salvador Edú, who plays for Miedź Legnica in the second level in Poland, even put the number 88 in the FIFA world rankings ahead after 36 minutes at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpé. Two minutes later, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen equalized on behalf of Nigeria, but that was it.
The countries are in group A. Host country Ivory Coast started on Saturday evening with a 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau.
Egypt avoids defeat against Mozambique
Egypt also started the tournament very disappointingly. Mozambique even seemed to beat the record winner 2-1 in Stade Félix-Houphouët-Boigny, but in the 97th minute, Liverpool star player Mohamed Salah scored the equalizer on behalf of Egypt.
Mostafa Mohamed had helped seven-time winners Egypt get off to a dream start in the 2nd minute. But with goals in the 55th and 58th minutes from Witi and Clesio Bauque, Mozambique seemed to cause a sensation. This was prevented in the nick of time by Salah, who will play with Egypt against Ghana next Thursday (9 p.m.). That country starts the tournament on Sunday evening against Cape Verde.
