Anyone who is driving on the A50 from Oss to Eindhoven these days and has to get off at the Ekkersrijt exit near Son will have to take a detour. There is a thick layer of ice on the exit towards the industrial estate, making the road surface slippery.
“Excess water and the saturated verge cause black ice,” explains an ANWB spokesperson. “We have to wait until it thaws again before traffic can get back on the road. We can’t do anything else.”
The exit is expected to be closed for a few more days. Traffic is diverted via yellow signs with the letter ‘E’ on them. The additional travel time is about ten minutes.
On Wednesday morning, traffic heading to Eindhoven was also stuck. An accident had occurred on the left lane of the exit, resulting in two cars having to be recovered. Motorists had an extra hour of travel time, but the road was open again around nine o’clock.
