The Kölner Haie responded to threats against their captain Moritz Müller and his family on social networks on Monday.
“The Kölner Haie strongly condemn yesterday’s incident, which was directed against our captain Moritz Müller and his family,” said a statement from the DEL club.
Müller published a screenshot of a user comment on his Instagram story on Sunday after the 4:5 defeat at ERC Ingolstadt, in which he was thrown off the ice early for a check against Philipp Krauß from Ingolstadt. The user had commented on a family photo of Müller and his three children with a knife and a drop of blood and the threat “I would kill these worms for such a terrible game of yours.” Müller commented on this in his story with the words “No matter what, something like that just doesn’t work!”.

“In our eyes, this incident represents a clear and absolutely cross-border attack on the values and model of coexistence in our society,” said the Haie. “We are stunned and shocked at how people are able to make such threats to other people.”
The club also assured the player of “all support”. It is now a matter of working with the authorities to identify those responsible and examine criminal consequences.
Three game suspension
For the check and the game disciplinary penalty, Müller was given a three-game ban and a fine by the DEL on Monday. Müller violated DEL rule 48 during the check.
