The 26-year-old woman who drove a car into a tree in Tilburg on New Year’s morning, causing one death and four injuries, will remain in custody for at least another two weeks. The court in Breda decided this on Thursday afternoon. After the accident, the woman from Tilburg was treated in hospital for her injuries and then arrested. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) accuses her of causing a fatal traffic accident.
The accident happened around 7 a.m. on New Year’s Day. A 39-year-old man from Tilburg who was in the car was killed. Four other passengers were injured. Among them was the woman behind the wheel.
The police arrested her on suspicion of manslaughter and several traffic violations. Blood tests must show whether the woman from Tilburg had been drinking or using drugs. The outcome of that investigation is not yet known. It is also unclear whether the 39-year-old fatality was sitting next to the driver or in the back of the car. The police are also investigating whether all occupants were wearing seat belts.
The car crashed into a tree at the intersection of Bredaseweg in Tilburg. The three passengers who are still in hospital are known to be two women aged 26 and 30 and a man aged 29. They are also all from Tilburg. No other traffic was involved in the accident.
After the accident was reported, the police, fire brigade, two trauma helicopters and six ambulances were deployed.
The collision with the tree happened so hard that the Tesla turned into a wreck:
