FC Bayern’s basketball players narrowly missed a surprise in the first game of the year.
The Bundesliga team was unfortunately defeated by Virtus Bologna 83:85 (46:42) in the Euroleague. The best thrower was Carsen Edwards with 22 points.
Due to the defeat, the Munich team missed the chance of a place among the top ten teams for the time being. In the first two quarters, both teams were on equal terms in terms of results. However, Bayern were more efficient in both defense and offense. They were more accurate, especially with two-point throws, and also managed many more blocks than the hosts. So the Munich team went into the dressing room with a small lead against Italians who played incorrectly.
After the restart, little changed. The Bundesliga team kept their concentration high and kept the favorites at bay. The guests were also in the lead for a long time in the final quarter and had a sniff of victory. Bologna equalized three and a half minutes before the end and took a narrow lead a short time later. The Italians didn’t give them away anymore.
The Euro League continues for Bayern this Friday (8 p.m./Magenta Sport). Then they compete at Olimpia Arman Milan.
