Luke Littler’s fairy tale is far from over. The 16-year-old sensation at the World Darts Championship continues tirelessly and qualified for the final on Tuesday evening at the expense of Rob Cross: 6-2.
Cross, the 2018 world champion, took a 1-0 lead in ‘Ally Pally’, but was then no longer able to cope with the drive of the man (read: boy) who has been wowing everyone for two weeks. In the final battle of the World Cup, Littler will play against the winner of the match between Luke Humphries and Scott Williams, who eliminated Michael van Gerwen on Monday.
After Cross took the lead and Littler somewhat hesitantly threw his first darts, ‘The Nuke’ gained steam. Cross missed a set arrow for a 2-0 lead, and then Littler struck unprecedentedly hard. He won three legs in a row and broke Cross in the third set. Then suddenly Littler had a 2-1 lead. A beautiful 142 finish was the highlight of that third set.
Littler pulled off a similar feat in the fourth set, scoring a 149 finish. Cross struggled for a while in the fifth set and reduced the deficit to 2-3, but after that there was no stopping ‘Voltage’. Littler hit doubles and triples in record time and won three sets in a row. For the first time in the history of the World Darts Championship, an unseeded player is in the final. Will Littler make his ultimate dream come true on Wednesday evening?
