Christmas items are pouring in at the thrift store: ‘This can go into the store next year’

From Christmas baubles to gourmet sets, the thrift store is busy. At Kringloopwarenhuis Het Goed in Emmen they know exactly what to expect after Christmas: crowds at the collection street!

Jan Speelman from Kringloopwarenhuis Het Goed notices it every year: after Christmas, people immediately hand in their Christmas items. “People have a few days off and are cleaning up. Fondue sets that they receive and do not use are returned. The gourmet sets all come back and of course things from the Christmas packages,” says Speelman.

“There is a whole line of cars with people coming to hand in stuff. That line is much longer than normal,” says Speelman. The Christmas items that are unloaded do not immediately appear in the cycle, they will not be taken out of storage until next year. “Now it doesn’t make much sense anymore,” says Speelman. The thrift store employees are currently busy sorting all the Christmas items brought in by color into boxes. “We already have a whole wall full of boxes filled with Christmas stuff in the storage room,” says Speelman. Around September next year, the Christmas items will be for sale again in the thrift store and Speelman expects that it will all be sold again by mid-November.

There are currently no Christmas items available in the thrift store in Emmen. “Everything was sold more than two weeks ago.” Even though Christmas has only just ended, people quickly forget about the fun. “If you ask before Christmas whether we still have gourmet sets, they are all gone, but after Christmas they come back en masse,” says Speelman, laughing.
