Declan Rice moved from West Ham to Arsenal in the summer. FC Bayern were also previously interested in the English midfielder. Now the top clubs are apparently engaged in another transfer duel.
In July, Arsenal announced the signing of Declan Rice. The England international moved from West Ham to the Gunners for around 116 million euros after FC Bayern had also been courting the services of the defensive midfielder for a long time.
The open position in the midfield of the German record champions in the central midfield still exists six months after the transfer setback at Rice. Thomas Tuchel in particular is said to be calling for the commitment of a so-called “Holding Six”. One of the candidates: Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
FC Bayern faces competition from Arsenal FC
According to “Sport Bild”, the 24-year-old is the Bundesliga club’s “top favorite” for the clearing position in front of the defense. However, Arsenal FC could apparently once again thwart FC Bayern’s plans. The top English club should also have the Spanish midfielder on their list. This is reported by “football.london”.
According to the online portal, a change during the winter transfer period is unlikely. However, the north London club could make a move on the central midfielder next summer in order to prepare the control center for the future.
With Mohamed Elneny, Jorginho and Thomas Partey, Arsenal currently has three midfielders under contract, all of whom are over 30 years old. The runner-up is therefore currently thinking about long-term personnel planning, according to “football.london”. Next summer, Zubimendi could leave Real Sociedad for a fixed fee of 60 million euros.
