DIt’s a short step from Lady Diana and Camilla to Prince Harry and Meghan. According to Luisa Ciuni – Royal expert journalist and author of a recently published book, The king’s two wives (Cairo Publisher)in which he compares the unforgettable Princess of Wales and the current Queen Camilla – the Sussexes have an uncertain future not only professionally but also as a couple.
«Meghan will get rid of Harry as soon as she manages to find something more interesting” explains Luisa Ciuni. «Markle, whatever you think about it, she is an autonomous woman, she has a precise plan of what she wants to do – the African American influencer who dedicates herself to social injustices – and she has all the cards to do it. She has a path, he doesn’t. He is nobody. It’s Mr. Markle».
Diana would have taken Prince Harry’s side in the Megxit?
Perhaps a divorced Diana would have even stoked the fire more! Prince Harry and Meghan are carrying out exactly Diana’s project: that of destroy the English monarchy. By now there is implacable hatred between them and the Windsors. Perhaps Diana would have managed to stem the violence between her two sons Harry and William, but she certainly would not have been able to influence Charles, because she herself didn’t get along with it.
Will Meghan and Prince Harry be able to recover from the latest flops?
Harry and Meghan had a moment of great media stardom early in the Megxit, but then you can’t keep saying the same things over and over again. Now they have taken it out again too the history of racism among the Royals… But please!
In your book, The king’s two wives, the focus is on Lady Diana and Camilla. Why compare two such different women?
I wanted to tell a story that until now had always been told in a way that, as a woman, didn’t seem dignified to me. I did not like it The bodyshaming endured by Camilla and the idea that there was a villain, a family ruiner who was vilified for being older and uglier than her rival Diana. I have been following the Royals of England for 40 years and I don’t think we can say that one is better than the other. It is simply the story of two very different women, united by a “rivalry” that, in a normal situation, would not have been possible.
“Two women victims of a mechanism that destroyed them both”
Camilla is a strong woman but has spent a good part of the last 30 years in hiding, suffering insults and insults. Diana married very young, with too heavy a burden on her and, unlike what Philip did upon entering the court, he did not try to adapt. At 19 he found himself in a catastrophic marriage, which wasn’t working beyond Camilla. Charles and Diana were too different. Diana hated everything her husband did. Theirs was a serious incompatibility.
What is the secret of Carlo and Camilla and of a love story that has lasted for half a century?
Carlo wrote it: “I saw it and I lost my mind”. She fell madly in love. But he was prevented from marrying Camilla and was forced to choose Diana instead, considered more suitable for the future role of queen. The secret of Carlo and Camilla’s union today is the continuous exchange between the two. Camilla does not compete with her husband, but he listens to him, supports him, follows him. For her part, Carlo fills her wife with esteem and consideration, and this, for her who came from a difficult marriage with Andrew Parker Bowles, was very important.
Camilla also proved to be a rock for the Royal Family
Yes, unlike Diana, Camilla shares all of the Royals’ interests. From gardening to horses. She likes dogs, fishing, walking, hunting… With them she is in her environment. So it wasn’t difficult for the Windsors to get along. Then she is a very capable, stoic, reliable woman, even in moments of crisis she doesn’t bat an eye. She fully embraced Queen Elizabeth’s famous way of doing things never complain never explainnever complain, never explain.
Over the years Camilla has gone from being the most hated woman by the English to one of the most loved Royals at court. How did she do it?
I believe that Camilla had the intelligence not to go on a collision course with Diana, who is still a myth, instead carving out the role of second wife, very calm and dignified, always one step behind her husband, without particular ambitions. There are no winners in this story. Diana and Camilla are two people who life has placed on two parallel tracks. But they both suffered.
