San Francisco 49ers: Brock Purdy names his MVP favorite

After a small dip in performance in the middle of the season, the San Francisco 49ers are now the ultimate in the NFC. In addition to the strong defense, the offense around quarterback Brock Purdy is getting more and more hot. The playmaker is one of the favorites for the title of NFL MVP, but he has a completely different candidate in mind.

And the “Mr. Irrelevant” from last year’s draft doesn’t have to look far. For him, teammate Christian McCaffrey is the worthy MVP.

“I think Christian should be MVP. I firmly believe in it. He does everything for us, that’s why he’s the MVP in my eyes,” said Purdy after the game against the Arizona Cardinals.

The fact that the quarterback made these statements is hardly surprising given Christian McCaffrey’s once again great performance against the Cardinals. CMC collected 187 scrimmage yards and scored three touchdowns.

Looking at the entire season, McCaffrey now has 1,292 rushing yards, 509 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns. Both the 2,000-yard mark and the 49ers’ franchise record for most touchdowns in a season are still possible. Jerry Rice currently holds this with 23 touchdowns in 1987.

NFL: Purdy more than a system quarterback?!

Christian McCaffrey’s numbers alone definitely bring him into the MVP discussion. Brock Purdy is also in this discussion and with few players the debate is as hot as his. Some NFL fans see him as a great quarterback who has earned points with his Cinderella story anyway.

Still others say Purdy benefits from the outstanding circumstances in San Fran and from his teammates.

In the end, the truth will probably lie somewhere in the middle. However, it cannot be denied that Brock Purdy is having a more than convincing season and is far from just throwing checkdowns and screens.

In the end, only one thing is certain: the discussions will continue until the MVP is appointed and possibly even afterwards.
