In preparation for the European Football Championship, the German national team will move into a training camp in Thuringia. From there it goes into Base camp to Herzogenaurach. There will be two more test matches in June.
As the German Football Association (DFB) announced on Friday (December 15, 2023), national coach Julian Nagelsmann will gather his squad in Weimarer Land from May 26th to 30th to prepare them for the tournament. The accommodation is a golf resort in the town of Blankenhain, where the England team will move in for the European Championships.
“We have perfect conditions in Weimarer Land to prepare for the great task of home European Championships. The resort with its in-house training facilities impressed us with its optimal pitch conditions (…).Nagelsmann is quoted in the statement.
According to sports director Rudi Völler, the DFB “deliberately for the east of Germany” decided before moving to Herzogenaurach in Franconia. The national team will spend the second part of the preparation at the headquarters of the major sponsor and supplier and will also live during the tournament, which begins on June 14th with the opening game in Munich between Germany and Scotland.
At the beginning of June, the DFB is planning two more test matches against teams whose style of play is similar to their German group opponents (apart from Scotland, Hungary and Switzerland). Venues have not yet been published, but given its proximity to Herzogenaurach, the Max Morlock Stadium in Nuremberg should be considered.
