‘I feel like André Hazes Jr.’

It remains a bit embarrassing: events that do not sell out on their own. After André Hazes Jr., Today Inside was also forced to dump tickets on VakantieVeilingen to fill the Ziggo Dome. This auction site is the digital equivalent of the Kruidvat bargain bin and as an A-brand you obviously don’t want to be among them.

Johan feels like André

Johan Derksen was quite shocked by the revelation that the Ziggo Dome will be full tomorrow for that reason alone. “I was very ashamed when I heard that some tickets cost seventy euros and that they were also for sale on Vakantieveilingen.nl,” he says in conversation with The Telegraph.

And they laughed at André for that, according to Johan. “I feel like André Hazes. It is suddenly very hypocritical of us that we insulted him for the fact that he did not sell out Ahoy in one go, and now the same thing is happening to us.”

‘Just come into the studio’

Media critic Victor Vlam thinks that VI fans are completely missing the point, because they can simply attend the regular recordings for free. And Johan agrees with that. “I would actually like to say to all those people who come: you could have just sat in our studio for once, that’s free and then you get a cup of coffee too.”

If it were up to Johan, these major events in a Ziggo Dome-like concert hall would now be over. “I don’t think I’ll do this a third time.”

75 years

Finally: Johan will be 75 years old on January 31. How is he going to celebrate? “Nowadays I often sit here on my birthday. Then they will arrange all kinds of crazy things for me again. I do not feel like it. Other than that, I don’t see it as a milestone.”

He concludes: “That with the money I earn I was able to help all three of my children – for whom the housing market is also terrible – find a home. I am proud of that.”
