The German Football Association has now officially applied for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. Together with the football associations of Belgium (RBFA) and the Netherlands (KNVB), the DFB submitted the documents to the world association FIFA on time, as the association announced on Friday (December 8th, 2023).
The aim is to increase revenue by 50 percent compared to the 2023 World Cup. The World Cup last took place in Australia and New Zealand in the summer. There was record revenue there of 570 million US dollars (around 527 million euros).
The decision on the award will be made on May 17, 2024 at the FIFA Congress in Bangkok, and the evaluation process at the world association will begin at the beginning of next year. The three-party alliance’s competitors are Brazil and the USA/Mexico. The USA, which will host the next men’s World Cup in 2026 together with Mexico and Canada, already hosted the women’s World Cup in 1999 and 2003.
Women’s World Cup: Germany has been there before host country
The DFB, which hosted a Women’s World Cup in 2011, is entering the race with the four cities of Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Gelsenkirchen and Cologne. Belgium would like to host World Cup games in Anderlecht (Brussels), Charleroi, Genk and Ghent, the Netherlands in Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Heerenveen, Enschede and Rotterdam.
FIFA makes the final selection of the ten venues. The World Cup groups would be drawn in Brussels.
