After the 4-year request from the anti-doping prosecutor’s office, the strategy of the Juventus club
– Turin
The news arrived at Continassa in the morning: Juventus was warned of the anti-doping prosecutor’s request for a 4-year disqualification for Paul Pogba shortly before the matter became public knowledge. Not that anything different was expected, and in any case the duration of the stop will not influence Juventus’ choices. The story between the Octopus and the Lady is at an end and the two are destined to separate when the disqualification becomes definitive.
waiting for Juventus
—
The black and white line is clear: no decision will be taken until the first instance sentence is issued (also because until then the company could not act from a legal point of view), then based on the extent of the disqualification the management he will meet with the player’s entourage to move in agreement. The road to farewell now seems clear, unless a (very unlikely) disqualification of a few months arrives at the end of the proceedings.
resolution hypothesis
—
Otherwise, Juventus intends to free itself from the burden of the 9 million euros net per year (excluding bonuses) that it should pay to Polpo until 2026. However, it would like to do so not in a traumatic way, but by reaching an agreement with the player. This is why the most likely route seems to be a consensual resolution, which would allow the club to save around thirty million.
arbitration panel
—
Unless there are specific names in the player’s contract which regulate doping, after a possible first instance conviction the club has two options ahead of it: the first is that of consensual resolution, perhaps with a sum to be paid to the player. If an agreement is not reached, Juventus will be able to resolve the relationship unilaterally by turning to the arbitration panel, as provided for in articles 9 and 11. The club immediately declared its non-involvement in the affair: the offending product, the famous supplement that caused Pogba tested positive for testosterone, he would have been hired without consulting the Juventus doctors. However, the player has so far always declared himself innocent.
minimum salary
—
The Frenchman’s salary is suspended from the moment of the positive test, as foreseen by the collective agreement in the case of doping (the player cannot provide services and therefore the club has the right not to pay him, if not at the minimum wage) and he earns at currently 42 thousand and 477 euros gross per year, or approximately 2 thousand net per month. He cannot train and cannot have contact with other members. The negative effects of the Growth Decree will also have to be evaluated: in the event of termination before two years, the club would have to return the money saved so far. For this reason the farewell could be postponed by a few months, to June. It will also depend on how long the process takes.
