From skeleton to apartments: this is the case with the new construction project Terra Nova

The former office buildings Australia, Africa, Asia and America on Boerhaavelaan have been looking a bit sad for months. The buildings have been stripped in preparation for the new construction project Terra Nova. The start of construction is long overdue, but still nothing is happening. What’s up with that?

Several readers from the Zoetermeer neighborhood sent our editors the question about the status of the construction of Terra Nova. This new construction project includes 106 low-cost rental properties, 98 medium-priced rental properties, 189 owner-occupied or rental properties in the private sector and 30 care homes.

Then there must be a contractor

When this new construction project was announced in March 2021, the homes were scheduled for completion in mid-2023. Landowner and real estate developer Breevast finally found a contractor this year, after some setbacks. In addition, the municipality has received 4.9 million euros from the government to give a financial boost to the start-up construction of Terra Nova. Councilor Jan Iedema hopes that Breevast will start construction in the first quarter of 2024.

First residential project in the Entree

The plan was for Terra Nova to be the first construction project in the new Entree district. According to the councilor, the delay is due to the construction and raw materials crisis.
