FC Schalke 04 has done everything right and extended the contracts of two young talents ahead of schedule. The U17 players Vincent Carus and Luca Vozar will remain with the Royal Blues in 2024/25.
“Vincent and Luca have been at Knappenschmiede for many years. We are very pleased that the two will remain with the club and play for the U19 team in the coming season,” said Matthias Schober, director of Knappenschmiede and development at FC Schalke 04, quoted on the club’s homepage.
“Vincent impresses with his strength in duels and his mentality. Luca is an intelligent footballer who takes responsibility on the pitch and coaches his teammates,” said Schober, explaining the decision.
Left-back Carus was promoted to the Knappen’s U17 team in the summer. The 16-year-old has since played 14 games in the B-Junior Bundesliga West (1 goal/2 assists). The left-footer was trained in Uerdingen until 2020.
Youngster is currently missing from FC Schalke 04
Vozar is at home in the defensive midfield. In 2023/24, the 16-year-old played twelve times for Schalke U17 (2 goals/4 assists). Vozar is currently suffering from a serious foot injury and is forced to watch for the time being.
FC Schalke 04’s U17s are currently at the top of the table in the U17 league. With 38 points they are level with Bayer Leverkusen after 16 games, although they have a worse goal difference. The youngsters from S04 arch-rival Borussia Dortmund follow in third place. If the BVB juniors win their catch-up game against MSV Duisburg on Wednesday, they would move within two points of the leading duo.
Schalke won the West relay in 2022 and 2023. In 2022, the Royal Blues’ talents also won the final of the German B youth championship.
