Sequins and transparencies: the looks of the stars at the British Fashion Awards

A red carpet full of high fashion releases. On the other hand, the British Fashion Council (BFC) event can be considered like the American Met Gala, at least in terms of spectacularity. And the 2023 edition (presented by Pandora) was no different.

Jonathan Anderson named British designer of the year

A year of fashion, told through the award ceremony of its greatest protagonists. Designer of the Year, Jonathan Anderson For JW Anderson And Loewewhich defeats the competition – everyone was focusing on Sarah Burton, who recently left the reins of Alexander McQueen (she received the Special Recognition). And one of Anderson’s signature looks worn by stands out on the red carpet Taylor Russell at the 2023 British Fashion Awards: a satin dress with a lush jewel bustier by Loewe. A custom made creation for Spring-Summer 2024, presented on the red carpet by the designer himself, who accompanied the actress in the spotlight Bones and All.

The double tribute to Valentino

Yes, because the history of the (British) Fashion Awards has its roots back in 1989. Over 30 years later, the red carpet is still the most fashionable on English soil. And it goes without saying that in addition to the rising stars, there is still room for career awards and for the more or less veiled tributes to the clothes that made history of fashion. This time theOutstanding achievement award the 91-year-old wins it Valentino Garavanifounder and former creative director of the Maison of the same name now led by Pierpaolo Piccioli.

And it is no coincidence that two of her looks stood out on the red carpet of the (British) Fashion Awards 2023, worn by the most prominent celebs, both brides, of course, in Valentino: on the one hand Anne Hathawayin an archive dress from the Spring-Summer 1993 collection. Vintage, cream-colored, sculptural and covered in tassels spaghetti inspired – nothing more iconic.

He echoes her Gwyneth Paltrowin red Valentino Couture: shawl cape with 3D feathers and strapless dress, an old-fashioned look dating back to the distant Autumn-Winter 1965/1966, but still extremely current.

Lila Moss as mother Kate in 1993

Fashionable digressions between past and present. As demonstrated by the look of Lila Mossa quote from one of mother Kate’s most iconic outfits: the modern silvery sheer dress by Nensi Dojaka it is in fact similar to the one designed by Liza Bruce worn by Kate Moss in 1993 at the Elite Model Agency party, with cigarette in hand and visible thong.

A tribute to the trend naked dress that surpasses times and fashions. A veiled homage – in every sense – corresponds to a clear tribute to the queen of rock Vivienne Westwoodwho passed away almost a year ago and was chosen on the red carpet by the hyper rockers Laura Whitmore And Iris Law.

And the profusion of white dresses – chosen, among others, by Mona Tougaard (in Alaïa), Sara Sampaio (in Richard Quinn), Maya Jama (in Dolce&Gabbana), Maisie Williams (in Simone Rocha), Felicity Jones (in Erdem) bring to mind in 2023 the most famous look of British Fashion Awardsthe one worn by Lady D for the first 1989 edition, entirely decorated with pearls and signed Catherine Walker.

The best looks outside of England

Out of the British mainstream, but extremely on track ahead of the Partiesthe look with the bronze sequin slip dress Versace worn by Amal Clooneyon the red carpet of the (British) Fashion Awards 2023 without George.

And definitely up-to-date the creations of the collection Moncler x Sacaipresented only a few days ago and already worn on the red carpet by, among others, Ellie Goulding, Mia Regan and boyfriend Romeo Beckham.
