BVB winter access possible, “but not necessary” – look for a mole

Terzic-Kehl relationship “completely ok”

Managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke spoke in an interview with the “Ruhr News“said about possible winter transfers at Borussia Dortmund. The 64-year-old also addressed the reportedly tense atmosphere in the management team.

In principle, Watzke “doesn’t want to rule out” new arrivals in January. But it is not absolutely necessary either. The question is whether there are sensible options in the winter transfer period that are economically feasible.” Last year, the Black and Yellows signed Julian Ryerson for 5 million euros from Union Berlin, the Norwegian subsequently increased his market value by 7.5 million to 15 million euros.

The full-back positions are also currently a construction site for Borussia. “Sky“ recently announced that the expiring contract with Marius Wolf (28) should not be extended, and new signing Ramy Bensebaini (28) has not yet been able to convince either. However, Watzke dismissed a bottleneck on the defensive flanks: “So far we haven’t had the problem of having to repurpose an offensive player. In addition to Ryerson, Bensebaini and Wolf, we also have Niklas Süle who can play there. And Thomas Meunier has recovered from his injury. I don’t see any personnel vacancies.”

According to Watzke, no major departures are to be expected. In principle, however, “for economic reasons you definitely have to make a larger transfer every now and then. (…) We have to make solid calculations because we are also required to invest intensively in the infrastructure. In our training ground and our stadium, which will soon be 50 years old. We have to keep generating money for this too.”

BVB boss Watzke on the relationship between Terzic and Kehl: “Completely ok”

In addition to some sporting construction sites, Watzke currently also has to take care of the allegedly tense atmosphere in the management team. Among other things, the relationship between coach Edin Terzic and sports director Sebastian Kehl is considered tense. “If I found that we were all just patting each other on the back all day long, from morning to evening, I would definitely feel like that wasn’t a work culture that was conducive to performance. You also have to allow for different opinions, which we can sometimes discuss in a discussion. But the two agree on most points. “Their relationship is completely ok,” emphasized Watzke.

Watzke did not want to comment on the personality of sports coordinator Slaven Stanic, who, according to a report, has repeatedly criticized Terzic’s work internally. However, the managing director explained that he wanted to find the mole: “The only thing that bothered me is that a few internal things have become public in the last few weeks. That didn’t exist here before. We’ll get to the bottom of this.”
