UEFA probably didn’t like this decision either: video assistant Tomasz Kwiatkowski was suspended for one game after he left Paris Saint-Germain allowed a hand penalty.
After the controversial penalty decision in stoppage time Champions League-Game between Paris St Germain and Newcastle United (1:1) is the responsible video assistant Tomasz Kwiatkowski suspended for one game by UEFA. The Pole should also play in the Group D game between Real on Wednesday (November 29th, 2023). Sociedad and RB Salzburg assist, but will not be used there now.
First the body, then the hand – still a penalty
At the game in Paris there was a referee Szymon Marciniak (Poland) after an alleged handball by Newcastle’s Valentino Livramento was initially not given a penalty, but was then asked to go to the sideline by Kwiatkowski to look at the pictures. The referee then decided on Superstar Kylian Mbappe (90.+8) converted the following penalty to make the final score 1-1.
The VAR had intervened, although Livramento received a cross from the ex-Dortmunder Ousmane Dembele from a very short distance, first to the upper body and from there ricocheting onto the arm.
