Handball World Cup: Norwegians start with a big win

Defending champion Norway started the women’s handball world championship with a resounding victory.

The co-hosts lived up to their role as favorites and beat Greenland 43:11 (19:7) on the first day of the tournament in Stavanger.

In the first game of Group C, Austria had already won against South Korea 30:29 (16:12) at the same place.

Like the Norwegians, Spain and Brazil also celebrated clear opening victories in Frederikshavn, Denmark. After Brazil’s 35:20 (17:10) over Ukraine, the Spaniards won against Kazakhstan with 34:17 (14:8) and thus moved to the top of Group G.

The German team starts the tournament against Japan on Thursday (6 p.m./Sportdeutschland.TV) in Herning, Denmark. Other group opponents of the DHB selection are Poland and Iran.
