The electronica gourmand’s comeback album is overflowing with ideas. Very few are innovative.
It took 13 years for the successor to REBELLION OF THE DREAMERS and a lot has changed since then. The Turmstrasse collective has become a solo project and the world of electronic (dance) music has moved on. So what does Nico Plagemann do? Basically everything like last time, only much more offensive.
Between the actual tracks, Rilke’s lyrics read out by a computer voice smear pathos into the proceedings; the focus is more pomp and pop than before. However, unlike its predecessor, UNITY OF OPPOSITES does not capture the spirit of the times, but rather imitates it: here a track clearly sounds like Moderat, there concessions are made to the happy-sad rave sound of Bicep and Overmono, and in between, Feature applies -Guest-packed tunes for various playlist placements. This album is by no means lacking in ideas, but it certainly is lacking in concept.
