From December 4th you can apply for tickets for the German group games at the 2024 European Football Championship. Members of the national team fan club have the best chances.
The draw for the 2024 European Championship will take place in Hamburg on December 2nd, and the second application phase for admission tickets will start two days later (December 4th). The German Football Association (DFB) announced this on Monday.
UEFA will then make a total of one million tickets available to the associations of the 21 teams that have qualified so far in December, exclusively for the group phase.
The German group games will take place in Munich (June 14th), Stuttgart (June 19th) and Frankfurt (June 23rd). The DFB has around 9,000 tickets available per game.
Fan club National team gets the most cards
There are three ways to get tickets: According to the DFB, the largest contingent is available to the 55,000 members of the official national team fan club. Membership there costs 15 to 30 euros per year.
It is also possible to register an independently organized fan club with the DFB. They also receive a fixed contingent of tickets.
The third option is a tournament registration. This costs five euros, regardless of the success of the application. According to the DFB, they only want to cover the costs of the registration and processing process and also ensure that only real supporters apply for tickets.
Long-time members of the fan club have priority
There are three time windows within the phase: In the first two from December 4th to 7th and from December 7th to 11th, only members of the National Team Fan Club are entitled to purchase with a certain number of bonus points, which depends on the duration of the membership and the Participation in recent international matches is measured. Applicants with fewer or no bonus points or with tournament registration are only allowed to enter from December 11th to 15th. The independent fan clubs take part in their own sales phase
Tickets for any games played by the German team in the knockout rounds from the round of 16 onwards will only go on sale after the group phase.
20 million applications in the first Application phase
The first application phase ended on October 26th. Over 20 million applications were received for the more than 1.2 million admission tickets.
The third phase for the remaining 500,000 tickets follows after the playoffs in March – this is where the three remaining participants are determined – and shortly before the tournament in “last minute sales” as well as during the tournament for the knockout round.
How much do tickets for the Euro 2024 cost?
The cheapest tickets are available for 30 euros (“Fan First” category) in the preliminary round. The majority of tickets are offered in category 3 (60 euros), category 2 (150 euros) and category 1 (200 euros). The group phase, from which 16 of the 24 teams qualify for the round of 16, is no bargain.
For the opening game in Munich on June 14th (9 p.m.), the cheapest tickets are available from 50 euros, the other categories are then 195, 400 and 600 euros. From the round of 16 onwards, the prizes in the four categories are 50, 85, 175 and 250 euros. The prizes are staggered over the course of the tournament and become more expensive with each knockout round: from the quarter-finals (60 to 300 euros), semi-finals (80 to 600 euros) to the final (95 to 1,000 euros).
| category | Opening game | Group stage |
|---|---|---|
4 | 50 | 30 |
3 | 195 | 60 |
2 | 400 | 150 |
1 | 600 | 200 |
The significantly more expensive hospitality packages have been on the market for a long time. The lounges and skyboxes cost between 1,250 and 2,300 euros per encounter. There are also so-called premium offers that cost between 400 and 2,000 euros per card.
| category | Round of 16 | Quarterfinals | Semifinals | final |
|---|---|---|---|---|
4 | 50 | 60 | 80 | 95 |
3 | 85 | 100 | 195 | 300 |
2 | 175 | 200 | 400 | 600 |
1 | 250 | 300 | 600 | 1,000 |
Are tickets personalized? Can they be returned?
The tickets are initially personalized to the person who ordered them. This person can place orders in their name for a total of four people.
He only has to give the names of his “guests” later in a corresponding app – if you successfully apply for several games, the guests can vary from game to game.
UEFA wants to enable returns at the purchase price and resale exclusively through official channels. The feared black market should be combated in this way. However, the platform for reselling tickets will not be available until spring 2024. The association also points out that resale of tickets cannot be guaranteed. As in any market, this depends on demand.
What about public transport?
In order to take the desired sustainability into account, UEFA has reached an agreement with Deutsche Bahn.
Long-distance travel in 2nd ICE class costs just under 30 euros per trip for ticket holders. The tickets themselves are also valid as tickets for local public transport around the respective games.
In the first application phase, there was no reference to the discounts in the confirmation emails; environmental experts spoke of a missed opportunity.
What about children?
Children generally need tickets. Babies or small children who could theoretically sit on their parents’ lap are not exempt from this. “All children, regardless of their age, need a valid ticket and are therefore allocated a seat”says UEFA. Children must pay the full price.
Tickets for fans with disabilities are provided for each game. “These tickets are offered in the cheapest category, regardless of where the accessible seats are located in the stadium”, the organizers wrote. You can also apply for a free ticket for an accompanying person. There is no standing room at the European Championships. DFB President Bernd Neuendorf campaigned for this in vain.
