The Police Board informs that the Chief of Police Seppo Kolehmainen has ended the Vitja system project as it is.
The Vitja project was supposed to make the work of the police easier by combining numerous information systems into one and thus reducing unnecessary paperwork.
Instead of Vitja, a system complex consisting of several applications and systems will be put into use. The functions are planned to be introduced one by one and in stages. In this way, you can quickly benefit from the new functions one at a time without having to wait for the completion of one gigantic project.
The project has been running for 14 years already and the technology used in it had time to become obsolete even before the system was published, which was never even done in the end. 90 million euros have been sunk into the project over the years and it is the state’s most expensive IT project.
However, ready-made parts of Vitja have been put into use and some will be used later. The goal of the new system is, among other things, to speed up the processing of criminal cases that can be solved quickly.
