Former coach believes Kerber can make a successful comeback

Former Australian Open finalist Rainer Schüttler believes Angelique Kerber will make a successful tennis comeback. The three-time Grand Slam tournament winner wants to return to the tour in January after a maternity break of around one and a half years.

“I trust her to do anything,” Schüttler told the “German Press Agency.”

If she really fought, she could achieve anything she set her mind to. “I think she will appreciate tennis even more now because she was out of the tennis circuit for a while,” explained Kerber’s ex-coach. She can also play “even more freely”.

Even as a mother, the goal is to win a Grand Slam title

Kerber said in an interview with the German Press Agency in the summer that her goals were “definitely the titles and definitely the big tournaments”. She believes that you can also celebrate Grand Slam titles as a mother.

The former world number one became a mother for the first time at the end of February and wants to travel to the tournaments with her daughter in the new season. She has not played a match since the summer of 2022. She has announced her comeback for the United Cup, a team competition for men and women. It will be held at the start of the season in Australia and begins on December 29th.

Without Kerber, the German tennis women will compete in the final round of the Billie Jean King Cup this week. On Thursday (10 a.m./Tennis Channel) the selection with team boss Schüttler will meet Italy.
