The proceeds from the campaign will go entirely to ‘Help us Help’. “More and more people are having a hard time with us,” says regional chairman Niels Delbaere. “We want to encourage them with this action and increase awareness of poverty.”
But with the action, Vlaams Belang also wants to address what they consider to be a failing Flemish housing policy. “The Jambon government made buying property virtually impossible for ordinary Flemish people,” says Delbaere. “There are also major problems within social housing policy. More than 176,000 families are on a waiting list for social housing. Here in Ypres too, there are waiting lists and families are left out in the cold.”
