Thomas Tuchel admits defensive problems

It is not yet clear whether FC Bayern will be able to play their second round game in the DFB Cup against 1. FC Saarbrücken. Nevertheless, coach Thomas Tuchel went to the match PK on Tuesday – and commented on his team’s sometimes shaky defense.

At least in the Bundesliga, FC Bayern can be satisfied with its goal difference: the record champions have already scored 34 goals in nine matches and in return only conceded seven goals into their own goal.

In the Champions League, however, the Munich star ensemble did not yet keep a clean sheet, and their opponents were successful five times in three games. And if the Turkish champions Galatasaray had shown more callousness the previous week, the statistics would look completely different.

Coach Thomas Tuchel is also aware that his charges still have room for improvement in the backward movement. “We allow a little too many chances to score,” admitted the 50-year-old on Tuesday before the cup game against third division team Saarbrücken.

“We have players in all areas of the team who like to attack,” added the trainer: “You can sometimes notice that in our game.”

FC Bayern: Tuchel takes opposing chances into account

Next Saturday, the German industry leader will take part in the classic at BVB. A stable defense will be of great importance against Dortmund, who are strong at home.

Tuchel said: “We always try to show our strengths over 90 minutes. It’s true that this means we always have games where the opponent has chances to score.”

So far, the coach’s tactical plan has largely worked, with FC Bayern only losing out in the Supercup against RB Leipzig (0-3).

Especially in the premier class, the defense will have to be more compact in the future. Because: Gaps in the defense of top opponents are punished mercilessly in the knockout round at the latest.
