A silent procession in Eindhoven, which was intended in memory of all victims in the conflict between Israel and Palestine, turned out to be a procession that was mainly aimed against Israel. Although the organizers of Our Children Our Voice emphasized that it had to be a silent march, slogans such as ‘Free Palestine’ and ‘Israel terrorists’ were still shouted.
About five hundred people attended the march on Sunday evening. The organization tried to quiet the crowd, but it did not work. Many people kept shouting slogans.
The silent procession started at the 18 September Square, after which the participants took a detour to the Stadhuisplein. There speeches were given and the names of victims were read out.
“It is a journey for all victims, for Palestinian and Israeli.”
People who participated were asked to bring a tea light or LED light and many participants complied. They also came in dark clothing, as requested by the organization. “It is a procession for all victims, for Palestinian and Israeli,” says half-Palestinian Tanya Sanderink from Hilvarenbeek, who co-organized the parade. She understands that it has not been a silent journey. “Given all the emotions going on, I understand that.”
The journey continued peacefully and without incident.
